Climate Club

Global climate agreements can feel big and distant. Small actions in everyday life can seem insignificant. But when we act locally, we can be inspired by each other and support our fellow human beings, and thus actually create a change that is visible in our society. This is exactly why our climate club exists!

Klimatklubben Helsingborg is a religiously and politically independent non-profit organization. Think of it as a community where climate enthusiasts and committed people can meet - regardless of political color.

The Climate Pledge

Klimatklubben Helsingborg was previously called Helsingborgarnas Klimatavtal, although we are no longer called that, we still manage the agreement and collect signatures.

Purpose: to show that we want the city's politicians to take the climate issue seriously, and that we support the city's ambitious goal of a climate-neutral city by 2030.

Small steps to big change - for you & the climate

When it comes to climate engagement, we are very much inspired by and use a model called the engagement ladder developed by Danish researcher John ThĂžgersen and colleagues. The staircase exemplifies different levels of engagement. It starts with something small, which then feels big, and then it builds up. For us, the first step is to sign the agreement! After that, you can take the next step on your own, or choose to engage with us. All steps are important and necessary, but researchers say that more and more of us need to move up the ladder. This means engaging more collectively, as this is how we have the best chance of achieving the necessary change.

“I want to leave behind an earth that is better”

I identify myself as an 'environmental egoist', but I have three children. I want to leave behind an earth that is a little better than the one my parents left.

“I have signed the pledge because I think it is a fantastic initiative”

As a family, we have chosen to get rid of our car and buy a box bike instead.

Some of our initiatives

Read more about some of our intiatives!

Our mission is to educate, engage and influence various actors in Helsingborg on environmental and climate issues: residents, politicians, officials, entrepreneurs, associations, etc.

Meet-ups with local politicians

We have several different types of meetings with our local politicians. Once a year, we usually organize a political hearing where we invite people to discuss various current climate issues. We also often meet with politicians one-on-one to stay in the loop on what is happening in the city. We meet and inform all elected parties.

forum for education

We usually have two different focus themes per year, e.g. transportation, food, etc. We start each theme with a kick-off where we both learn more and get inspired by invited speakers (e.g. officials who give us insights into the city's work, entrepreneurs who tell us about environmental and climate-smart innovations or engaged residents who inspire) and also start thinking about activities for the new theme period. In addition to these events, we sometimes organize opportunities to learn more about local issues, such as Öresundskraft's investment in CCS.

Events to get inspired

For example, to educate and inspire more sustainable behaviors, we organize excursions where we visit local destinations, hold cooking classes, film screenings, clothing swap evenings etc.

Spread the message

We regularly participate in contexts where we are out talking to people about the climate agreement and what we do, either as speakers or as exhibitors at markets or similar. Spreading the message is also about advocacy and opinion work by, for example, writing letters to the editor and engaging in dialog with politicians and officials.
